Dear Patient: Hello, Thank you for your query at sehat.com. I am Dr. Jaydeep and pleased to assist you. Weight gain is a common feature in hypothyroid patients.
But once you control the TSH levels, through proper medication such as ( Thyroxine ) the thyroid levels normalize and the metabolism gets better, hence weight gain won't happen further.
Apart from that you can avoid oily or fatty food and try incorporating daily walking into your life ( 45 minutes-1 hour per day ). Brisk walking is extremely good exercise, and will help you lose weight. Try to avoid sugar in beverages.
Get back to me with your thyroid values and present height and weight.
Regards.
