Chalazion is a small bump or cyst on the eyelid that is caused due to inflammation of blocked oil glands usually on the upper eyelid. A history of chalazia and unclean hands are the common risk factors to develop chalazion. The bump is usually small and painful. In very few cases, the chalazion may be caused skin cancer and the larger bumps would block the vision causing more irritation.
Some of the symptoms of Chalazion:
- Blurred or blocked vision
- A tender spot on the eyelid
- Sensitive to light
- A hard bump on eyelid
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult an Ophthalmologist immediately if you have the fever, headache, eye pain, extensive swelling or redness in eyes. The medication and treatment may vary for each individual depending upon the medical history.
