Cervicitis is the inflammation of the cervix, that is the lower and narrow end of the uterus that opens into the vagina. Cervicitis is usually resulted from a sexually transmitted infection as chlamydia or gonorrhea. Cervicitis can develop from noninfectious causes too. Some of the risk factors may include unprotected sex, having sex with multiple partners, sexual intercourse at an early age, and having a history of sexually transmitted infections.
The other causes of the inflammation may include:
- Allergies to chemicals in spermicides
- Bacterial imbalance
- Hormonal imbalance
- Irritation or injury from tampons
- Cancer or cancer treatment
Some of the symptoms of Cervicitis:-
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- Grayish or pale yellow vaginal discharge
- Pain during intercourse
- Frequent and painful urination
- Pelvic or abdominal pain
- Fever in few cases
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of persistent vaginal discharge, non-menstrual bleeding and pain during intercourse. The doctor may prescribe antiviral or antibiotic medication.
