Cervical Polyps are small tumors that grow on the cervix. The cervix is the narrow canal at the bottom of the uterus that extends till the vagina. Polyps are the fragile structures that grow from stalks rooted on the surface of the cervix or inside the cervical canal. Mostly occur in women in their 40's and 50's who gave birth more than one child. Polyps are also common during pregnancy that may be caused by an increase in the estrogen hormone. Cervical polyps are usually non-cancerous.
Some common causes for the occurrence of Cervical polyps:-
- Clogged blood vessels
- High estrogen levels
- Inflammation of the vagina
- Inflammation of the cervix or uterus
Some of the symptoms of Cervical Polyps:-
- Vaginal spotting or bleeding
- after sexual intercourse
- between periods
- after douching
- after menopause
- Abnormal heavy periods
- White or Yellow vaginal discharge
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of cervical polyps. The treatment may involve simple polyp removal that is safe and non-invasive procedure.
