Cervix is the lower part of the uterus that opens at the top of the vagina. Cervical Dysplasia is a condition of abnormal changes in the cells on the surface of the cervix. It can develop at any age but can often observed in women between ages 25 to 35. Cervical dysplasia is caused by a common virus called human papillomavirus or HPV which is a sexually transmitted virus. There are no typical symptoms observed, occasionally abnormal bleeding may occur. The cell changes are invisible to the naked eye and usually found in a regular pap smear.
Some of the factors that increase the risk of Cervical Dysplasia:-
- Having sex before 18 years
- Giving birth to a baby before 16 years
- Having multiple sexual partners
- Heavy smoking
- Using of medicines that suppress the immune system
- Other illness
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of cervical dysplasia. The treatments may include cryosurgery or laser surgery or traditional surgery or electrocauterization.
