Central Disc Protrusion is a type of spinal disc disorder that can result in neck or back pain associated with nerve irritation. The disc bulges directly posterior to its normal position and into the centre of the spinal canal where the spinal cord and spinal nerve roots are located. The projection into this location may result in pressure on the spinal cord and the nerve roots.
Some of the symptoms of the central disc protrusion:
- Muscle weakness
- Incontinence
- Radiating pain along the nerve
- Sensation of heat
- Numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, legs or feet
- Incontinence
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of the central disc protrusion. If the condition is severe and there is no improvement with the conservative treatment, the doctor may suggest undergoing surgery.
