Cartilage is a tough and flexible tissue exists throughout the body. The fine rubbery tissue functions as a cushion for bones at joints. Cartilage structures and functions can easily be harmed and damaged. Cartilage has two major functions: a shock absorber and a mould. Cartilage is of 3 main types and all the three types can be damaged.
- Elastic Cartilage
- Fibro Cartilage
- Articular/ Hyaline Cartilage
Cartilage damage may be commonly caused by a sudden accidental injury, osteoarthritis, osteochondritis and infection. The damage would result in pain and swelling.
Some of the symptoms of Cartilage Damage:-
- Swelling
- Difficulty of movement in the affected joint
- Joint pains
- Stiffness

Consult a doctor if you have signs of Cartilage Damage. A surgery may be needed in most serious cases and non-surgical treatments may help in other cases.
