Carpal bones are located in the wrist, there are eight carpal bones in the wrist. A carpal fracture is a break to one of the small bones in the wrist. The wrist is the most commonly injured joint in the body and carpal fractures occur as a result of direct force to the wrist. It is important to suspect and recognize carpal injuries as they are difficult to diagnose and can cause permanent disability if untreated. Sometimes the carpal bone fractures may include complications as stiffness, pain or aching which can be short lived but carpal osteoarthritis can be a late complication.
Some of the symptoms of Carpal Fractures:-
- Pain becomes more intense with movement
- Sudden pain with rapid swelling
- The pain may be observed in regular intervals
- Numbness or tingling feeling
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of rapid swelling and pain in carpal bones of the wrist. Early diagnosis is needed as the delay may complicate the condition.
