Atherosclerosis is a process of plaque buildup in arteries. Carotid Atherosclerosis is a diffuse, degenerative disease of the arteries resulting in plaque. The plaque may consist of necrotic cells, lipids and cholesterol crystals. These plaques can cause stenosis, embolization and thrombosis.
Some of the symptoms of carotid atherosclerosis:
- Transient visual loss
- Transient ischemic attacks
- Cerebral infarction
- Stroke in evolution
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have frequent signs of severe neurological deficit after a cerebral infarction. The doctor may conduct few tests to diagnose the medical condition.
