Cardiac Arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat is a condition where the electrical activity of the heart is irregular which is faster or slower than normal heart rate. A heartbeat that is faster than normal heart rate that is above 100 beats per minute in human adults is called tachycardia. A heartbeat that is too slow conventionally below 60 beats per minute is called bradycardia. Arrhythmias may be caused by several factors as coronary artery disease, electrolyte imbalances in your blood, changes in heart muscle, injury from a heart attack, and healing process after heart surgery. The irregular heart rhythms may occur in normal healthy hearts also.
Some of the symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia:
- Palpitations
- Pounding in the chest
- Dizziness
- Fainting
- Shortness of breath
- Chest discomfort
- Weakness of fatigue
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you experience palpitations or a feeling of skipped heart beats. The treatment may include physical maneuvers, medications or electricity conversion.
