A Calf muscle strain is a tear of one or both the muscles at the back of the lower leg. The calf muscle strain may be caused by stretching calf muscles beyond limits, the sudden apply of stress on calf muscles, too much strain on calf muscles and direct blow of calf muscles. The risk factors may include muscle fatigue, previous injury or strain, tight calf muscles, participation in sports.
Some of the symptoms of calf muscle strain:
- Swelling, bruising or redness
- Pain at rest
- Weakness of the muscle or tendons
- Inability to use the muscle
