Bunionette is also known as Tailor's Bunion. Bunionette is an abnormal bony protuberance or a bump on the outer side of the fifth toe. The condition starts as small & painless bump persistently become large and more painful over time. The initial treatment includes non-surgical procedures shoe modifications, padding, oral medication, icing, injection therapy, and orthotic devices. Usually, tailor's bunion is caused by an inherited faulty mechanism structure of the foot. Regardless of the cause, the symptoms of the bunion may be aggravated by wearing narrow shoes that produce constant rubbing and pressure on the toe.
Some of the symptoms of Bunionette:
- Redness and swelling around the base of the big toe
- Pain at the site of an enlargement
- Inflammation of soft tissue under the skin
- Big toe that points inward and possibly overlaps one or other toes
- Foot pain and stiffness that interferes in walking and other activities
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have persistent pain due to a bunion of bunion interfering with walking or other activities. Surgical procedure may be needed when the pain continues even after taking regular non-surgical treatments.
