Bunion is an abnormal bony bump or deformity at the joint of the big toe. A bunion forms when the big toe pushes against the next toe that forces the joint of the big toe to grow bigger and stick out. People who wear high heels, ill-fitting shoes, arthritis and heredity would increase the risk bunions. Bunions may be treated by conservative methods like changes in shoe gear, different orthotics, rest, ice and medications. Surgical procedures may be needed depending upon the condition of the disorder.
Some of the symptoms of bunions:
- Bulging bump on the outside of the big toe
- Swelling, redness or soreness around the
- Corns or calluses developed on first or second toe
- Persistent and intermittent pain
- Restricted movement of the big toe
