Bronchitis is a lung infection that inflames the lining of bronchial tubes that carry air to and from lungs. People with bronchitis often cough with discolored thick mucus. Bronchitis may be either acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis is an inflammation of bronchi usually caused by viruses or bacteria that lasts for less than three weeks with the cough as a main symptom. Chronic Bronchitis can be classified as a form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that lasts more than 3 months each year with symptoms of wheezing and shortness of breath.
Some of the symptoms of Bronchitis:
- Cough
- Mucus production
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Slight fever and chills
- Chest discomfort
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of severe cough that lasts more than 3 week producing blood and disturbs sleep. The severity of the condition is diagnosed and medication is given for quick recovery.
