Breast Diseases are classified into various types depending on the symptoms and conditions. All the breast disorders are not cancerous. The breast changes may occur with age, changes in hormone levels and medicines. The nipple discharge and shape may also classify the breast disorders, abnormal nipple conditions are nipple discharge other than milk in feeding mothers, inverted nipples and supernumerary nipples.
Some common changes observed in breast disorders:
- Cysts - that are fluid-filled lumps
- Fibrocystic breast changes - lumpiness, thickening and swelling just before periods
- Blocked milk ducts
- Milk production when a woman is not breastfeeding
- Intraductal papillomas - growth of similar warts near the nipple
- Fibroadenomas - solid, round, rubbery lumps that are movable
Some of the symptoms of breast diseases:
- Breast swelling or thickening
- Lumps observed in breast
- Pain or tenderness of the breast
- Sharp pain
- Burning sensation
- Itching
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of unusual lumps and pain persisting in the breast. Early treatment may help in quick recovery.
