Blepharitis is inflammation or infection of eyelids that is caused by abnormal growth of bacteria. The inflammation usually starts at the part of the eyelid where eyelashes grow. Blepharitis may sometimes be a chronic condition that may be difficult to treat. A bacterial infection, seborrheic dermatitis, malfunctioning oil glands of the eyelid, allergies, eyelash mites or lice, and certain medication are all the causes of Blepharitis.
Some of the symptoms of Blepharitis:
- Blurry vision
- Watery eyes
- Red eyes
- Gritty and burning sensation
- Itchy eyelids
- Sticking of eyelids
- Loss of eyelashes
- Sensitive to light
- Flaking of skin around eyes
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of blepharitis that is not controlled even after proper cleaning and care taken in the affected area. The doctor may suggest medication and treatment after thorough tests.
