Binswanger's disease is also called subcortical leukoencephalopathy. It is a type of dementia that is caused by widespread damage in microscopic areas of deep layers of white matter in the brain. The damage may be due to thickening and narrowing of arteries that feed the subcortical areas of the brain. This disorder usually characterized by loss of memory, intellectual function and by changes in mood.

- Mental deterioration
- Language disorders
- Muscle ataxia
- Epilepsy
- Fainting
- Uncontrolled bladder
- Slowness in movements
