Atypical Depression is a type of depression or dysthymic disorder. People having atypical depression experience depression at the early stage, may be during their teenage. These people look sad and depressed most of the day, they lose enjoyment in life, appetite disorders, weight gains, feeling hopeless, fatigue, concentration problems, recurring to thoughts of death or suicide.
People who have family history of depression, significant loss from death or taking divorce, interpersonal conflicts, sexual or emotional abuse, social isolation, serious health disorder and drug or alcohol abuse are some of the factors that trigger Atypical Depression.
Some of the symptoms of Atypical Depression:
- Sleeping for long hours
- Weight gain due to increased appetite
- Heavy leaden feeling arms and legs
- Trouble in maintaining long-lasting relations
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor immediately if you have signs of deep depression and suicidal thoughts. The patient needs necessary counseling and treatment.
