Atrophic vaginitis is also known as vaginal atrophy or urogenital atrophy. Vaginal atrophy is inflammation of the vaginal walls due to reduced or less estrogen levels in the body. Usually, this disorder occurs after menopause or it can develop during breastfeeding or may be at any time when estrogen production declines. Estrogen may decrease due to disordered ovarian functionality, due to radiation therapy or radiation therapy, immune disorder or due to the removal of ovaries.
Some of the symptoms of Atrophic vaginitis:
- Dryness
- Itching and soreness
- Burning sensation
- Pressure
- White discharge
- Malodorous discharge
- Pain in intercourse
- Bleeding after intercourse

Consult a Gynecologist if you have painful experience in intercourse and other vaginal symptoms as unusual bleeding, discharge, burning or soreness.
