Asbestosis is a chronic inflammatory medical condition that affects lungs by scarring of lung tissues. This is caused by inhaling asbestos which include tiny fibers. Long term exposure to asbestos would lead to accumulation of fibers in lung tissues resulting in thickening of lung tissues, causing pain and restricting pain. Asbestosis is not exactly lung cancer but a serious health condition that may worsen with age and may need increased treatment.
Some of the symptoms of Asbestosis:
- Breathing problems
- Dry cough
- Loss of appetite and weight loss
- Finger tips and toes appear wider and rounder
- Chest pain
- Swelling in neck or face
- Having difficulty to swallow
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of persistent cough with shortness of breath and having a history of exposure to asbestos. Because the delay may lead to serious health problems.
