Arthritis in Midfoot or Midfoot Arthritis is inflammation in middle of the foot that may aggravate by standing and walking for long time. The pain and swelling may appear on the entire width of the top of midfoot or just on the top of the mid foot. Mid foot has multiple small joints and is the high-point of the arch, so it is more prone to problems. The disorders arise when the arch sags, flattens and collapses. Over a period of time, the wear and tear of joints may lead to degeneration of cartilage. Some of the factors that may trigger Midfoot Arthritis are Overweight, Tight calf muscle, overuse, improper arch support and age.
Some of the symptoms of Midfoot Arthritis:
- Swelling in below or above the midfoot
- Pain in affected area
- Discomfort in walking
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult an Orthopedic if you have signs of swelling and pain in mid foot. Simple remedies may help in some cases, but chronic cases may require surgical treatment.
