Aortoiliac Occlusive disease is also known as Leriche\'s Syndrome. The aorta splits into branches at the belly button, called iliac arteries. The iliac arteries pass through the pelvis into legs, where they divide into various smaller arteries that run till the toe. Aortoiliac occlusive disease occurs due to blockage or narrowing of iliac arteries. People with smoking habits, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels in blood, with a family history of heart disease are at high risk for aortoiliac occlusive disease.
Some of the symptoms of Aortoiliac Occlusive Disease:
- Severe pain and numbness in limbs
- Weakening of muscles in legs
- Dryness, scaly and cracks on skin of foot
