The aorta is the main blood vessel that carries blood from heart to rest of the body. Aortic dissection is a serious condition that tears inner wall of aorta which allows blood to flow between layers. Aortic dissection is not very common and frequently occurs in men at ages of 60's and 70's. Chronic high blood pressure may stress the Aorta tissue leading to tear in blood vessel. people who are pregnant or using cocaine or high- intensity weightlifting are at increased risk for Aortic Dissection.
Some of the symptoms of Aortic Dissection:
- Sudden and severe chest pain or upper back pain
- Breathing problems
- Unconsciousness
- Sudden difficulty in speaking, loss of vision
- Partial paralysis
- Severe weakness
- Pulse drop down in one arm
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of severe chest pain, fainting frequently, shortness of breath. Early diagnosis and treatment may reduce risk.
