Gout is a form of arthritis that is caused by excess uric acid in blood stream. Gout is commonly affected in joints of toe and usually attacks during night with severe pain. Acute gout is sudden inflammation and intense pain in joints caused by deposits of urate crystal. The pain normally subsides in 3-10 days. Gout may also affect knees, wrists, fingers and elbows.
