She is instrumental in setting up the first Newborn Screening for preventable causes of Mental retardation in India and published the first data on the prevalence of these disorders in the Indian population
Set up the Nations comprehensive Genetic Diagnostic Service Laboratory for the diagnosis of Biochemical, molecular and cytogenetic disorders at Center for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), a unit of Department of Biotechnology Government of India. This led to the setting up of prenatal diagnosis for the high risk families with the objective of genetic counseling and prevention of genetic disorders. She is a member in the Task force study of New-born screening set up by the Indian Council of Medical Research. Presently she is the President of Indian society of Inborn Errors of Metabolism. A life member in the Indian Academy of Paediatrics.
