Dr. (Prof.) S S Chatterjee is one of the most respected doctors of Kolkata, who has the distinction of being one of the eminent cardiologists of Kolkata and the surrounding regions. Dr. Chatterjee graduated with MBBS from the R G Kar Medical College with Honors in 1974, and won several Gold and Silver medals, apart from scholarships. He was awarded a Gold Medal for Pharmacology by the Calcutta University. He went on to do his MD in General Medicine from the University College of Medicine, Calcutta, in 1978 , and subsequently, obtained a DM in Cardiology from The Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research, Kolkata.

Dr. Chatterjee has worked in various capacities from 1986 onwards - as a Lecturer,  Assistant Professor, Reader, Associate Professor, and Professor at the IPGMER, Kolkata. He was appointed as the Head of Cardiology at the IPGMER in 2007 from where he was promoted as Director, Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, of the R G Kar Medical College Hospital. 

Dr. S S Chatterjee has received advanced training and completed fellowships in Invasive Cardiology in France and in the USA. He was the first surgeon to perform the first Valvuloplasty and Coronary Stenting in Eastern India. He specializes in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Angina Pectoris, and Arrhythmia.

Dr. Chatterjee, who is one of the leading cardiologists in the area, shares his expertise in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Angina Pectoris, Arrhythmia, Atherosclerosis, Cardiomyopathy, Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure, Hypertension, Myocardial Infarction, and Peripheral Artery Disease.

Dr. Chatterjee has presented more than 140 papers at national and international scientific meetings, and published over 75 papers in various academic journals. He has a number of Fellowships to his credit, some of them being: Fellowship in Invasive Cardiology, Starr-Ahmed Fellowship in Advanced Cardiology, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and Fellow of the Cardiological Society of India (FCSI). He has received a number of medals and scholarships during his academic career.
