Conditions affecting the ear can be classified into those affecting the inner, middle or external ear, or a combination of these.

These conditions can cause symptoms related to hearing (hearing loss, tinnitus or ringing), balance (vertigo, dizziness, nausea, blurred vision), and/or local ear symptoms (pain, pressure, ear discharge, itchiness, facial weakness).

Nose conditions can be divided into those affecting the external nose, the nasal cavity, and the sinuses. Conditions affecting these regions may cause symptoms including: nasal obstruction, congestion & discharge; pain or pressure in the face, eyes, or teeth; headaches and altered sense of smell. Nasal conditions can also contribute to snoring, disturbed sleep and sleep apnoea.

Throat conditions involve the tubular regions of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx and upper oesophagus. The neck region includes all the tissues that envelop these structures.

Symptoms of throat conditions are varied but can include voice changes, swallowing difficulties, airway and breathing concerns, including chronic cough and throat clearing. Snoring and sleep apnoea are also related to this area, as are the common conditions of tonsillitis and reflux. Neck conditions can cause neck pain, stiffness and/or a neck mass.
